Street vs Track Coilovers for WRX/STI
Most WRX owners want a coilover that works for daily driving AND occasional track days or canyon runs. That rules out the hardcore track-only stuff (stiff as hell on broken pavement) and the cheap eBay garbage (no damper adjustment, blows out in 6 months).
The sweet spot for a WRX that sees the street 90% of the time:

- KW Variant 3: German engineering, separate compression and rebound adjustment, OEM-quality fit. More expensive than BC but the damper quality is a step up. Good pick if you daily drive aggressively.
- Eibach Pro-Street S: Simpler single-adjustment design, but Eibach spring rates are well-matched to the WRX chassis. Easier to set up than a full coilover but less adjustability.
- Tein Flex Z: Good budget option for the daily driver WRX that wants lower ride height and improved response without breaking the bank.
How Low Can You Go on a WRX?
On a street WRX, 1-1.5 inches of drop hits the sweet spot — improved center of gravity, better stance, no rubbing issues. Going lower than 1.5 inches requires aggressive alignment settings and may cause rubbing on stock wheels. STI owners with more aggressive setups often run 2+ inches of drop on track-spec setups.
Do You Need an Alignment After Installing Coilovers?
Yes. Always. No exceptions. Alignment after coilover install is mandatory — the ride height change shifts your camber and toe settings out of spec. Plan for the alignment cost when budgeting your coilover purchase.
