Carli Signature Series 2.0-Inch Front Shocks for 1994–2012 Dodge Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 — 2.75-Inch Lift, Sold as a Pair

The Carli Signature Series 2.0-inch front shock pair for 1994–2012 Dodge Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 is the front-axle half of Carli's entry-level shock upgrade for the classic Ram heavy-duty platform. Sold as a pair for owners replacing or upgrading only the front shocks, these units bring Carli's proprietary Ram HD-specific tuning to the front suspension without requiring the complete front-and-rear set. Whether you are completing a staged upgrade, replacing worn front units on an existing Carli system, or upgrading independently because the rears still have usable life, this pair delivers the same Signature Series performance as the complete set — just at the front axle.

The Ram 2500 and 3500 from 1994 through 2012 spans two major Cummins diesel generations and multiple body styles, but the front suspension architecture remained consistent enough that Carli's shock tuning covers the full range. The 5.9-liter Cummins from 1994 through 2007, the 6.7-liter from 2007.5 through 2012, and the Magnum gasoline variants all share a solid front axle located by radius arms — the same basic architecture that makes this platform one of the most capable and repairable heavy-duty truck suspensions ever produced. Carli's Signature Series shocks are built specifically for this architecture and its weight characteristics, not adapted from a lighter-truck application.

Ten Inches of Controlled Wheel Travel

The Signature Series front shocks deliver ten inches of wheel travel on the 1994–2012 Ram HD platform. This travel specification matters in both on-road and off-road use for different reasons. On pavement, ten inches means the shock can absorb large road inputs — a deep pothole, an abrupt pavement transition, a highway expansion joint at speed — without reaching the end of its travel range and transmitting the full impact force into the cab through the suspension hard stop. The difference between a shock that bottoms on a significant road input and one that has adequate travel to absorb it is immediately felt in steering wheel feedback and cab harshness. Shocks with adequate travel make the truck feel composed over surfaces that reveal the limits of inadequate shock travel.

Off-road, ten inches of travel means the front axle can articulate over terrain features that would unload the front wheels on a more restricted system. When the front wheels lose ground contact, the truck loses steering control. Maintaining wheel contact with the ground through rocks, ruts, and uneven terrain is what allows the driver to steer the truck precisely rather than waiting for the front end to come back down to the ground after an articulation event. Ten inches of well-controlled Signature Series travel keeps the front wheels in contact with the ground through terrain that tests the limits of the factory shock's stroke, improving both traction and steering control in exactly the conditions where Ram HD owners take their trucks off-road.

Tuned for the Cummins Diesel Front-End Weight

The front-end weight of a Ram 2500 or 3500 equipped with the 5.9-liter or 6.7-liter Cummins diesel is substantially greater than a comparable gasoline-engine truck. The Cummins is a large, heavy inline-six diesel engine that places its mass forward in the engine bay, directly over the front axle. This weight is the primary variable that determines correct front shock valving — the rate at which the shock resists compression, the way it responds to inputs of different sizes and speeds, and the behavior at the extremes of its travel range are all calibrated around the actual weight sitting on the front axle.

Carli's Signature Series valving for the Ram HD front shocks is specifically calibrated for the Cummins diesel's weight. This is not a heavy-truck average or a compromise between diesel and gas variants — it is the correct starting point for a diesel-powered Ram 2500 or 3500. The practical result is a shock that controls the front end correctly under hard braking, where the diesel's mass wants to drive the nose downward; over continuous road inputs at highway speed, where the shock must resist the urge to transmit every ripple into the steering wheel; and at the high end of the speed range over rough terrain, where the valving must be responsive enough to let the shock work quickly without allowing the suspension to feel nervous or unpredictable.

Factory Shocks vs Signature Series: What Changes

Factory shocks on the 1994–2012 Ram HD are designed to cover the full operating range of the truck from the factory — from a lightly loaded daily driver to a maximum-payload work truck. This range is wide enough that the factory valving is necessarily a compromise, calibrated to be adequate at both extremes without being optimized for either. The result is shocks that are often over-damped when the truck is empty — feeling stiff and reactive over small inputs — and potentially under-damped when the truck is carrying heavy payload or towing, where the front end can feel loose and imprecise under hard braking with significant weight behind it.

Carli's Signature Series narrows this compromise to the range where Ram HD diesel owners actually operate their trucks. The valving target is the conditions these trucks see most: partial to full payload loads, regular towing, and the occasional off-road excursion. Within this actual use range, the Signature Series shocks are more precisely calibrated than the factory units, delivering better control, smoother response to highway inputs, and more predictable behavior at the limits of the suspension travel. Owners report the improvement most noticeably at highway speeds and during towing — exactly the conditions where the factory shocks' compromise valving is most evident and where the Signature Series' more targeted tuning makes the biggest difference in day-to-day driving experience.

Fitment

The Carli Signature Series 2.0-inch front shock pair fits the following Ram HD configurations: 1994–2002 Dodge Ram 2500 (4x4, Cummins diesel and Magnum gas, all trim levels); 1994–2002 Dodge Ram 3500 (4x4, all engines, all trims, SRW and DRW); 2003–2009 Dodge Ram 2500 (4x4, 5.9-liter and 6.7-liter Cummins diesel, Magnum gas, all trims); 2003–2009 Dodge Ram 3500 (4x4, all engines, all trims, SRW and DRW); 2010–2012 Ram 2500 (4x4, 6.7-liter Cummins diesel and Hemi gas, all trims); 2010–2012 Ram 3500 (4x4, all engines, all trims).

These shocks are designed for 2.75 inches of front lift and are sized accordingly. The shock length in this pair positions the shock correctly at both full droop and full compression for a truck running 2.75 inches above stock ride height. Running these shocks on a truck at stock ride height will result in the shock sitting too low in its travel range at rest, affecting ride quality and using the shock outside its designed operating range. Running them on a truck with significantly more than 2.75 inches of lift has the opposite effect — the shock reaches the end of its droop travel before the suspension does. Confirm your current or planned lift height is 2.75 inches before ordering.

Installation

The Signature Series front shocks install in the factory upper and lower shock mounting locations on the 1994–2012 Ram HD. The mounting hardware uses the factory bolt holes and bracket positions — no modification to the frame, radius arm mounts, or axle housing is required. Remove the factory shock hardware at both upper and lower mounting points, install the Carli shocks, and torque all hardware to Carli's specified values. If you are installing alongside coil springs, leveling components, or any other suspension hardware that changes front ride height, complete all installations before performing the front-end alignment.

A front-end alignment is required when the coil springs are changed and is strongly recommended any time new shocks are installed on a lifted truck to confirm that caster and toe are correct for the installed geometry. Alignment cost is a normal part of any suspension service and should be budgeted alongside the parts and installation labor. Estimated installation time at a shop with a lift is one to one and a half hours for the front pair when no other suspension components are being changed simultaneously. If you are installing alongside coil springs or other components, allow the full installation time for all components before the alignment appointment.

Completing the System and Long-Term Value

The front Signature Series shocks are one component of a complete suspension upgrade for the 1994–2012 Ram 2500 and 3500. Pair them with Carli's coil springs for the appropriate lift height on this platform, and add the rear Signature Series shocks to complete the matched front-and-rear system. Running a matched Carli front-and-rear shock system ensures the damping characteristics of both ends of the truck are calibrated to work together — front dive under braking and rear squat under load are both addressed by the matched tuning, producing a truck that pitches less and recovers more quickly than a truck with mismatched front and rear shock damping.

For 1994–2012 Ram HD owners who plan to keep their trucks for another 100,000 or 200,000 miles — a realistic expectation given the Cummins diesel's legendary durability — investing in correctly specified shocks pays dividends over the full remaining service life of the truck. Factory shocks on these trucks at high mileage are often well past their useful life, delivering little meaningful damping and accelerating wear on ball joints, tie rod ends, and other suspension components that are working harder to compensate for inadequate shock control. Fresh Signature Series shocks restore the suspension's ability to do its job, protecting those surrounding components from the accelerated wear that results from driving with worn shocks.

Details
Carli Suspension's Signature Series Front Shocks provide a generous 10 inches of travel to deliver enhanced suspension articulation in off-road situations. For added performance and durability Carli uses zinc plating, a clearcoat finish, and quality bushings to protect the shocks from corrosion. To further enhance the durability and performance of the shocks, Carli adds boots that serve as protective covers for the shock shafts, shielding the shocks from dirt, debris, and other potential sources of damage.
