The fuel pump hanger is the assembly that suspends your in-tank fuel pump at the correct depth inside the fuel tank — and it's the part most performance builders overlook until they have a fuel starvation problem. OEM hangers are calibrated for stock fuel delivery. The moment you increase power significantly, add forced induction, or switch to E85, the factory hanger and sock filter become the restriction that starves your engine under hard acceleration.
High horsepower builds: Most factory hangers max out around 400–500whp depending on the platform. Above that, you need an upgraded hanger designed to house a larger, higher-flow pump — or a dual-pump setup for extreme power levels.
E85 and flex-fuel conversions: Ethanol requires roughly 30–40% more fuel volume than gasoline for the same power output. Your factory pump and hanger cannot support this demand without significant upgrades.
Surge and starvation: On track-oriented builds or vehicles with large tanks, fuel can slosh away from the pump pickup under hard cornering or braking. A properly designed hanger with a baffled sump or surge tank keeps the pump fed at all times.
Drop-in assemblies use your factory hanger frame but replace the pump, wiring, and filter sock with higher-flow components. Easiest install, best for mid-level builds up to ~600whp.
